Our Story
The name Alcove & Nib came to us quietly, the way the best ideas do. An alcove is a place apart, a corner of calm carved out from the noise of the world. A nib is the point of a pen: precise, intentional, the meeting place between thought and page. Together, they capture everything we believe stationery should be: a retreat, and a tool for meaningful work.
Alcove & Nib began as a search for stationery that felt worthy of the moments it was part of. We could rarely find everything we wanted in one place, so we built it. What started as a carefully considered edit has grown into a curated collection of writing instruments, fine inks, notebooks, and paper goods, each chosen because it earns its place on your desk.
We are an independent online stationery store, which means every product is selected, tested, and packed by us before it reaches you. The alcove is a personal quiet space for writing, drawing, and reading, and we want the things we send out into the world to support exactly that.
How we curate
Every brand and product in our collection passes through the same quiet test: does it support the work without getting in the way? We handle everything ourselves. We write with the pens, fill the notebooks, and test the paper with different inks. If something does not feel right in the hand or on the page, it does not make it into the collection.
We look for makers who share our values, those who take the long view on craft, who choose materials with care, and who understand that a well-made object is one you reach for again and again. Some are small and independent. Others are institutions with decades, even centuries, of expertise. What they share is an uncompromising commitment to quality and a belief that the tools of write-draw work matter.
We are also mindful of our impact. Where possible, we choose makers who use sustainably sourced materials, responsible production methods, and minimal, recyclable packaging. We would rather carry fewer things and carry them well.

Whether a maker has been crafting pens for over a century or is a newer voice bringing fresh thinking to the page, every name here has earned its place.
